Originally built in 1895, this charming Mosman home sat within a heritage conservation area, making any structural changes or redevelopment complex. The owners wanted to give the home a second life — relocating it to their 100-acre property in Frog Rock — but doing so required careful handling to preserve its historical character while ensuring compliance with modern building standards.
McDonald Contracting was engaged to manage the complete relocation process — from structural preparation to transport and placement at the new rural site. Our team engineered a custom plan to ensure the safe lifting and transportation of the home, maintaining the original framework, roofing, and detailing.
While the original foundations couldn’t be reused due to updated building codes, the project achieved a remarkable 80% material reuse rate, with timber frames, flooring, and fixtures all carefully recycled and repurposed. This approach not only honoured the home’s historical integrity but also reduced waste and embodied a strong commitment to sustainable building practices.
Today, the Mosman heritage home stands proudly at Frog Rock — transformed into a modern farmhouse-style residence that celebrates both past and present.
This project showcases McDonald Contracting’s expertise in heritage relocation — seamlessly blending craftsmanship, compliance, and care to preserve Australia’s architectural story for generations to come.
Our focus on innovation, precision, and care means even the most challenging moves are handled with confidence. Got something extraordinary to move? Let’s talk.
