McDonald Contracting was engaged to transport a set of extra-large military-grade fuel tanks—a crucial part of Australia’s preparation to home the first-ever B52 Bombers stationed on our soil at RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory.
The catch?
No traditional transport provider had the deck length required to carry the tanks in one piece without resorting to a multi-axle platform trailer system, which would introduce delays and logistical complications.
The cargo wasn’t just oversized—it was historically significant. These tanks, beautifully painted and highly visible, mark the beginning of a new era in Australia’s military alliance with the United States. Once delivered, the tanks would be buried for operational use—but their journey would be recorded in defence history.
With our specialised trailers offering extended deck lengths and engineered flexibility, McDonald Contracting was able to load and transport the tanks safely and securely—without the need for a platform trailer. This meant reduced preparation time, simplified logistics, and full compliance with transport regulations.
Our experience in long, wide, and high-impact hauls allowed us to navigate the unique handling requirements while respecting the sensitivity and significance of the military cargo.

The tanks were delivered to RAAF Tindal on schedule, with no damage, no delays, and complete operational readiness on arrival. They now rest underground—silent but strategic—supporting the long-term basing of U.S. B52 Bombers in Australia.
Our focus on innovation, precision, and care means even the most challenging moves are handled with confidence. Got something extraordinary to move? Let’s talk.
